A school running challenge built
around confidence, not speed

Children do not just need more exercise. They need positive experiences that help them believe movement is for them.

Class to 5K is built around confidence, consistency and enjoyment.

Pupils start with simple run-walk sessions in school, using games, teamwork and gradual progress to build belief week by week.

The goal is not to create elite runners.
The goal is to help every child feel:

I can do this.

Class to 5K gives schools a simple, practical way to support physical activity, wellbeing, resilience and family engagement, while giving teachers a ready-made programme that is easy to deliver.

How the programme workS

One school session per week. Optional family support sessions. One proud finish 2-5K event!

01

School Mission

Pupils complete one fun, structured session in school each week.

The sessions use games, movement skills and simple run-walk intervals to build confidence gradually.

Teachers are given clear session cards so the programme can be delivered without needing to plan from scratch.

02

Parent Plan

Parents who want to take part can join the Class to 5K Parent Plan through TrainingPeaks.

This gives families guided sessions to complete at home, including child-and-parent sessions and a parent-only session.

These sessions are optional. They are not delivered, managed or monitored
by the school.

03

Final Challenge

At the end of the programme, pupils complete a flexible final challenge with parents invited to take part as well as spectate.

This could be 2K, 3K or 5K depending on age, confidence, space and school preference.

The aim is not speed.

The aim is for every child to finish proud.

Why school leaders should care

A simple way to support activity, confidence and family engagement

Class to 5K gives schools a practical, ready-to-use programme that supports:

It is designed to feel achievable for children who do not see themselves as sporty, while still giving confident pupils a meaningful challenge.

Walking is built in. Run-walk is encouraged. Effort is celebrated.

Designed for teachers, not elite runners

No running expertise required

Teachers do not need to be runners to deliver Class to 5K.

Each session is written in plain English and follows a consistent structure:

The sessions are flexible enough for playgrounds, fields, halls and small spaces.

If a class needs more support, teachers can reduce rounds, increase walking time or choose the easier option.

If a class is ready for more, they can choose the challenge lane.

The teacher pack is there to make delivery simple, safe and clear.

One of the biggest strengths of Class to 5K is that parents can choose to join the journey too.

The school sessions give pupils a positive, confidence-building start.

The optional parent plan then gives families a simple way to continue moving together at home.

For parents, this is a chance to get fitter while supporting their child.

For children, it is a chance to see the adults around them setting a positive example.

The school does not need to deliver the parent plan, track home sessions or manage parent participation.

It simply gives families the opportunity to get involved.
